Dr. Lichtenberger Testifies in Favor of Dog Breeder Regulations

Marla Lichtenberger, DVM, represented Southeastern Wisconsin veterinarians when she testified September 23 at the State Capitol in favor of a bill that would regulate dog breeders.

"I witnessed first hand animal abuse when I helped spay and neuter 1600 dogs in the Wisconsin Humane Society seizure of dogs in 2008. The dogs were mentally, socially abused and had a high rate of genetic defects," said Dr. Lichtenberger, the only veterinarian to testify. "We support this bill and really wonder why it has taken 10 years for the government to decide on this bill. From my heart, I plead with the senators to please stop animal abuse and pass this bill.”

For news coverage of the hearing, including details of the bill, please see the Wisconsin State Journal article.
